    I have a question: what is population genetics? and how does population genetics affect on breeding?

    Thank you for your question. * Population genetics is the study of the allele frequency distribution and change under the influence of the four evolutionary processes: natural selection, genetic drift, mutation and gene flow. It also takes account of population subdivision and population structure in time and space. As such, it attempts to explain such phenomena as adaptation and speciation. * Population genetics analyses the pattern of distribution of genotypes/alleles in populations of organisms, and changes in the genetic structure of populations. Different populations of organisms show different frequencies of various alleles. Population genetics attempts to measure these allele frequencies in order to compare the genetic compositions of different populations. The purpose of these measurements can be for ecological studies, or to study evolutionary changes in the population.

    This course is aimed to focus on the followings: - Knowledge: To introduce the student to basic concepts and principles of animal science and their application in animal agriculture; terminology used in animal science as it relates to the industry, management practices, equipment, and animals; animal species and breeds and their relative importance from economic and social perspectives; animal genetics and breeding, reproduction, nutrition and feeding as well as animal welfare and health; current management practices as it relates to raising the common farm animal species, viz. cattle, swine and poultry. - Skills: To train students to know how to work independently and in a team, to develop problem-solving; to analyze, plan, and organize tasks efficiently. - Attitude and responsibility: To form activation, creation, responsibility in the study; to respect the animal producers, consumers, livestock environment, and animals; to form, manifest, and maintain the willingness to continue to foster professional and interdisciplinary knowledge throughout careers.
